We are still mourning her and the entertainment industry as a whole will suffer from a real vacuum going forward. Reports reaching us hints at Leia’s role in Episode IX of Star Wars, and the director of the movie will be meeting with Lucasfilm to discuss the way forward after the demise of the star actress.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Leia is expected to play two key scenes in Episode VIII and IX, and these are pretty top scenes that will pitch her with her brother Luke and her son Kylo Ren. It should be noted that Carrie Fisher had finished filming Episode VIII before her death, and may likely be planned to take on another episode of Star Wars as there are rumors that she has a larger role in the ninth episode than the eightieth episode.
In cases where actors die while working on movies, one of two things will have to be done, it’s either the writer writes out the actor either by death or some convenience or they may decide to use another act that looks much like the original actor. The first is always the best option, as the second option always raises issues as it feels wrong to resurrect a dead actor this way(by using a substitute).
According to Oscar-winning VFX supervisor, Michael Fink, “I have no doubt, given some of the recent work I have seen, there are filmmakers who will be willing to take up the challenge. So far, we have seen moments of success but not full performances. Should we create additional roles for Princess Leia? I don’t think so.”
Well, I think I share the sentiment of Michael Fink; the cheapest way to deal with this situation is to write Princess Leia out of the movie, and that will make it possible to continue future episodes with other actors, and they can even create another act that will play a similar role in the future.
